It is fitting that they choose Valentines Day for the shoebox project because it really tugs at your heart once you start filling your box. You step into that womans' shoes for a brief time as you imagine yourself homeless, without any personal items because you left in such a hurry.
As you fill the box you keep thinking oh, she'll need shampoo and conditioner, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, a brush and maybe a tube of lipstick to brighten her day. The childrens boxes were just as much fun. You just want to give them anything to keep their little minds busy for a short time. The employees at United Community Bank truly had a wonderful experience. If you can, join in. If not this year please put in on your calendar for next year. Infact, I challange the banks in Cheokee County to beat our 50 boxes next year!!
